Would you boycott the Beijing Olympics?

English Teacher Tawny Ochoa "It’s a difficult question- on one hand, I obviously can’t condone Chin’s support of the Darfur genocide; on the other hand, the Olympics are supposed to be about global unity, and therefore might be the most appropriate or effective forum for protest. I don’t usually watch the Olympics anyway, though, so I most likely won’t watch them this time."
Junior Luis Preciado "I would boycott the Olympics because of the controversy surrounding it. The staple of the Olympics is that it brings the world together through friendly athletic competition. With China’s cloud of suppression looming over Tibet, and people’s rights altogether, it is unfair to have only the privileged in China enjoy the Olympics, while countless others suffer. The Olympics should be a time of prosperity, watching the world’s most elite athletes compete, but this is impossible knowing the toll that was paid to make it happen."

By Kandi Haro | Assistant Sports EditorMay 1st. The day millions of high school seniors around the world have been waiting for. This is the deciding day nationwide when we must choose our destiny, our academic future, the school that will mold our future aspirations and create productive citizens out of the masses. This is also a day of utter chaos, a profusion of stress, and unyielding fear--the fear resting our success on an insignificant pencil mark on a box saying "please check here." This immense pressure is heavily present on campus. The inevitable question, "Where are you going next year?" and the hesitant response, filled with insecurities and self-doubt, haunts us all.
Many seniors on campus are unsure and frightened by the idea of leaving high school. For many, high school is the highlight of their lives and now that they must leave at the peak, they are lost and feel forced to grow up; grow up in a world where their lives are not scheduled on a dandy 3X5 sheet down to the minute and their biggest worry is what color to wear to prom.
